The Honourable Rene P. Foisy
The Honourable Rene P. Foisy graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 1961. He articled under the former Honourable Justice Roger H. Belzil and conducted a general practice of law in St. Paul, Alberta from 1963 to 1979. In 1979, the Honourable Rene P. Foisy was appointed to the District Court of Alberta, which ultimately merged with the Supreme Court of Alberta Trial Division to become the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.

In 1986, he was appointed as Commissioner regarding the Royal Commission to inquire and report on the accident involving the C.N.R. train and Via Rail Canada Inc. accident near Hinton, Alberta. He was later appointed in 1987 to the Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Court of Appeal of the Northwest Territories.

In 1988, he was appointed to the Federal Pension Appeals Board and in 1999, he was appointed to the Nunavut Court of Appeal. He was also appointed in 1999, as Deputy Judge of the Nunavut Court of Justice and Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories.

In 2000, he was appointed Deputy Judge of the Northwest Territories Territorial Court and then in 2002, the Honourable Rene P. Foisy was appointed Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of Yukon and Territorial Court of Yukon.



Recently in September of 2014, the Honourable Rene P. Foisy retired from the Courts after having faithfully served as a Justice in various capacities since 1979. With his experience and tenure, he is now focused on providing his services as a Mediator / Arbitrator throughout Canada.
